Pain Medication 101

There are two main categories of Painkillers. The first and most commonly used are the NSAIDs or Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs (which kills pain by removing the swelling that may be causing the pain) and then there are the ones that go into your brain/nervous system and say, “There is no spoon,” or in this case, “There is no pain.”

When it comes to pain medication the most important thing to keep in mind is DO NOT MIX pain medication WITHOUT a Doctor’s approval and certainly to check and make sure that what drugs you are taking does not adversely interact with the pain medication you want to take. It is very important that you KNOW WHAT it is you are taking and not just the brand name.

That said, there are alternatives to modern pain medication among the old tried and true Herbal remedies from back in the day. Aspirin was originally derived from Willow leaves and bark; however, you would have to drink about 20 cups of willow tea to equal the effect of one pill used today. If you have very mild pain I would recommend taking the Herbal route instead as it is always better to use less than more when it comes to altering our internal chemical makeup.
